Report: U.S. fears Israeli strike on Iran

The United States reportedly fears that Israel will bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The Times of London on Thursday quoted unnamed U.S. military sources as saying Iran’s declaration this week that the Natanz uranium enrichment plant is fully working could prove the “tipping point” for pre-emptive airstrikes by Israel.

Such concern, the British newspaper added, has been heightened by Israel’s bombing run in Syria in September, which is widely believed to have targeted a nascent nuclear reactor.

Israeli officials declined comment on the report, saying only that Jerusalem, like Washington, continues to support international sanctions as the primary means of pressuring Tehran into curbing its atomic ambitions. But neither country has ruled out military force as a last resort.
