An 85-year-old German citizen was ordered deported days after he left the United States of his own accord.
A federal immigration judge Tuesday ordered the deportation of Paul Henss, who has lived in the United States for 33 years. Most recently he lived in Georgia.
Henss did not attend his deportation hearing nor did an attorney on his behalf. He left for Germany on Nov. 7, according to the Department of Justice’s Office of Special Investigations.
Henss is accused of training and handling attack dogs at the Dachau and Buchenwald concentration camps from 1942 to 1944 and aiding in the Nazi persecution of Jews. He also instructed other guards in handling trained attack dogs to guard prisoners, according to government prosecutors.
He admitted in a sworn statement last March to serving as an SS guard at Dachau and Buchenwald for three months each as a dog handler.
