Five Israeli policemen are suspected of conspiring to attack mob figures with bombs.

Israel’s Northern Police District announced Thursday that five of its personnel, one of whom is an officer, were arrested this month for planting two bombs on property belonging to major crime figures. No one was hurt.

According to police investigators, the detainees wanted to frighten criminals who they believe had thrown grenades at their homes.

“This is an insufferable phenomenon and if the law enforcement agencies permit themselves to take that sort of action, a state of total anarchy will reign in this country,” Momi Lamberger, the deputy director of the Justice Ministry’s police investigations department, told Israel Radio.
