Up to 200 right-wing Israelis marched on two hills in the West Bank to found eight new outposts.
The members of the Eretz Yisrael Faithful planned to build one of the outposts Sunday in the E-1 section that links Ma’aleh Adumin to Jerusalem, which has been the subject of controversy since Jewish development of the section would preclude contiguous boundaries for a future Palestinian state.
Police blocked the roads leading to the planned outposts and also declared parts of the West Bank a closed military zone to thwart the demonstration.
For more than a decade, the right wing has established outposts as a way to protest government plans for territorial withdrawal.
On Saturday about 30 Palestinians, Israelis and foreign demonstrators built their own outpost in the E-1 section on land they claim should belong to the Palestinians. The Israeli army dismantled the single house on the site an hour after it was set up, according to the Jerusalem Post.
