A portrait of a man’s mother has been returned to him in England 65 years after it was confiscated by the Nazis.
Rudolf Beran, 94, of Birmingham, saw his family home and possessions taken by the Nazis as his father was being deported to a concentration camp, where he was murdered.
Beran’s son, Max, posted a photograph of his grandmother, Irena, on the Web a few years ago after a book about the painting’s artist was published. The portrait was discovered at a castle near Berlin.
“I was very surprised when it was discovered,” Max Beran told the BBC Friday. “It took two years to get it back.”
After years of making requests, it appears the Berans also will have a family home in Germany returned to them, the BBC reported.
