Israel appointed an interagency coordinator for wartime.
Matan Vilna’i, the deputy defense minister, will head the Emergency Authority, which will be the liaison between the military and other state agencies during wars. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s Security Cabinet on Wednesday approved its creation.
The authority is an outcome of an interim report issued by Israel’s commission of inquiry into the 2006 Lebanon war, which found that the offensive against Hezbollah and efforts to control damage caused by its rockets were stymied by poor government oversight.
