Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) says he wouldn’t join a John McCain administration.
There has been speculation that Lieberman, who spent two days this week stumping for McCain in South Florida, could be tapped as McCain’s running mate, should McCain win the Republican nomination.
On Thursday, Lieberman told JTA he would not accept a Cabinet post or the vice-presidency if McCain wins the presidency.
“I like the Senate, as you’ve heard me say,” Lieberman said. “Particularly having gone through all I did to have the privilege of serving, being a senior senator. You know, I think I’ve learned a lot about how to make the place work. And for me, that’s all I’m interested in for the remainder of my public service.”
Lieberman said that while he’s optimistic about McCain’s chances of winning the Republican nomination, he could potentially support a Democrat for president if McCain’s bid fails.
