Berlin is on a high security alert for a visit by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
According to the Associated Press, more than 1,000 police have been assigned to protect Olmert during his three-day stay.
Olmert, who arrived in the city Monday for meetings with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, began his visit with a trip to Berlin’s Jewish Museum, followed by an informal meeting with Merkel. They will meet again Tuesday for official talks with German President Horst Koehler and Parliament President Norbert Lammert.
On the agenda are German-Iran relations, Mideast peace talks, and preparations for the first-ever joint Cabinet meeting between Germany and Israel, to take place in Jerusalem in March. The historic meeting will mark Israel’s 60th anniversary.
