A military court handed down a 15-month sentence to an officer who led the hijacking of Palestinian taxicab.

Lt. Yaakov Gigi “together with his soldiers took control of a Palestinian taxi and tied up its taxi driver,” the army spokesman said in a statement Wednesday, noting that the court also decommissioned Gigi to the rank of private.

“During the operation a Palestinian was shot and injured. After the incident, the defendant lied to his commanders and persuaded his soldiers to lie during the investigation that was held in order to clarify the circumstances of the incident,” the statement continued.

The soldiers, who were on an unauthorized undercover raid in the West Bank village of Dahariya last July, left unattended the injured Palestinian, who had approached the car.
