The U.S. military is studying a classified report on lessons learned from Israel’s 2006 war with Hezbollah.
The study, prepared by the U.S. Center for Army Analysis and reported this week in USA Today, discounts conventional wisdoms about insurgents, for instance that they are untrained, and argues that they are now better trained and more motivated than regular forces.
It recommends “Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles; more body armor; and unmanned aircraft that can monitor enemy activity and fire missiles at enemy fighters,” according to USA Today.
The U.S. military is adapting the lessons for counterinsurgencies in Iraq and Afghanistan.
