Ehud Olmert and Mahmoud Abbas met, avoiding discussion of Jerusalem’s status.

The Israeli prime minister and Palestinian Authority president, as well as Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and chief Palestinian negotiator Ahmed Qurei, met at the prime minister’s Jerusalem residence Tuesday night. No agreements were reached and another meeting has been set for two weeks hence.

Israel and the Palestinians revived peace talks at the Annapolis, Md., conference last November and vowed to reach an accord by 2009, but progress has been slow. Olmert has since said that reaching a comprehensive peace accord in one year’s time is unlikely.
