Israel braces for pro-Hezbollah terror

Israel sealed off the West Bank and the Gaza Strip for fear terrorists will try to avenge a slain Hezbollah commander.

Israeli officials announced the military clampdown on Palestinian movement Tuesday, saying it would likely last into next week.

March 22 is the end of the 40-day Islamic mourning cycle for Imad Mughniyeh, the veteran Hezbollah terror chief who was assassinated in Damascus last month. The Lebanese militia has accused Israel of the killing – a charge denied by Jerusalem – and vowed revenge.

As well as the possibility of Palestinians trying to please Hezbollah by mounting solidarity attacks, Israel is mindful of the upcoming Purim festival, which in past years has been a time when terrorists strike.
