Israeli and French officials held strategic talks.
Aaron Abramovich, director-general of the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem, hosted his French counterpart Gerard Errera in Israel this week for a first round of bilateral talks on regional stability and other issues.
The annual contacts were instituted under an agreement last year between the foreign ministers of the two countries, Tzipi Livni and Bernard Kouchner, and signal Paris’s efforts, under President Nicolas Sarkozy, to come closer to the Jewish state.
A statement from Livni’s office said the talks “were characterized by openness, thoroughness and a positive atmosphere, a further expression of the special relationship between France and Israel.”
Next year’s meeting will take place in Paris.
