A Palestinian rocket ruined dozens of headstones in an Israeli cemetery.
A rocket fired from the Gaza Strip early Friday smashed into the Ashkelon cemetery, damaging some 280 headstones, local authorities said. At least 10 headstones were completely destroyed and the overall damage was estimated at around $300,000.
Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the launch, which was not picked up by Ashkelon’s early warning system. As a result, many residents discovered the damage by chance when they came to the cemetery to tend to their loved ones’ graves.
