The Reform movement came out against legislation aimed at enhancing border security.
The Secure America through Verification and Enforcement (SAVE) Act, introduced by conservative Democrats in both houses of Congress, would add troops to border patrols and require employers to check job applicants against federal databases in a bid to stem illegal immigration.
In a letter this week to every member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Reform’s Religious Action Center said the bill failed to address overall immigration reform and relied on flawed databases.
“If the SAVE Act is enacted, millions of legal workers, including U.S. citizens, could lose their jobs by mistake,” the letter said. “Meanwhile, undocumented immigrants will go further underground, leading to greater exploitation of undocumented workers, lower tax revenues, and the further erosion of wages and working conditions for all.”
