Syria and Iran signed a new defense pact.
The memorandum of understanding was signed Tuesday following a three-day visit to Iran by Syrian Defense Minister Hassan Turkmani.
The agreement calls for reciprocal visits by the two countries’ military leaders, joint military training and cooperation on developing arms, according to the Israeli daily Ha’aretz.
Also Tuesday, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, met with Khaled Meshaal, the Hamas terror chief who lives in Damascus, to urge him to keep up his fight against Israel even if Syria enters into peace talks with Israel.
