Israeli troops wounded at least six Palestinians while keeping a crowd of thousands away from the Gaza-Israel border.
More than 3,000 supporters of Hamas, the terrorist movement that controls Gaza, approached the Sufa crossing to protest Israel’s blockade of the strip. Israeli troops used bullets and tear gas to force back the protesters. Palestinian officials said six or seven were wounded, two critically.
Saboteurs blew open the fence on the Gaza-Egypt border in January during a similar protest and thousands of Palestinians rushed through.
Sufa is where Israel allows humanitarian supplies to enter Gaza. The blockade of all other materials has been in place since January in a bid to force Hamas to end its rocket attacks on Israel’s south.
