The wife of a Moscow yeshiva student was stabbed to death during a late-night walk.
A drug addict attempted to rob Yael Anetdinov, 27, in a park near the religious school early Monday and, when she resisted, the man stabbed her, according to Pinchas Goldschmidt, Moscow’s chief rabbi.
Anetdinov had gone for the walk after midnight with a friend. The attack occurred after the two had split up to return home.
Two government workers in the park witnessed the attack and the attacker was detained. There is no evidence that the attack was motivated by anti-Semitism, Goldschmidt said.
Anetdinov, who held dual Russian and Israeli citizenship, lived near the Ohaley Yaakov yeshiva with her 35-year-old husband and their two children, aged 4 and 5, said the school’s leader, Betzalel Mandel.
“We’re completely broken and trying to hold strong,” Mandel told JTA. The yeshiva has about 20 students.
The Russian government is assisting with the logistics to prepare for a funeral “as quickly as possible” in Israel, Mandel said.
