Israel’s Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad met with Condoleezza Rice.

The trilateral discussion Monday in Jerusalem at the end of the U.S. secretary of state’s visit centered on promoting economic projects with the Palestinian Authority.

“Israel will continue its support of the promotion of economic projects in Judea and Samaria,” Barak said.

The group also discussed law enforcement and public order activities by Palestinian security forces in the West Bank. Barak stressed that the Israel Defense Forces bore ultimate responsibility for security in the region.

Barak and Rice also met privately to discuss regional, political and security issues.

Later Monday, Rice made a suprise visit to Beirut to meet with new President Michael Suleiman. Hizbollah, the terrorist organization and Lebanese political party has garnered increased political power as a result of the new government configuration.
