The largest kosher meatpacker in the United States promises to reveal “the truth” at a private meeting in New York City.
Agriprocessors, the embattled meat producer that has struggled with its public image since a federal immigration raid May 12 on its plant in Postville, Iowa, is holding an invitation-only meeting Tuesday afternoon in Midtown Manhattan.
According to a widely circulated invitation, the meeting will cover four points: the “truth” behind the company’s troubles, the potential for a kosher meat crisis, steps taken by the company following the raid, and “what can be done to stop the slander and vilifications against Agriprocessors?”
The meeting, which is closed to the media, will feature presentations by Orthodox attorney Nathan Lewin, company spokesman Menachem Lubinsky and kosher supervisor Menachem Weissmandl, as well as unnamed kosher industry insiders and community activists from Postville.
