The Reform movement will broadcast a concert from Masada live on the Internet in celebration of Israel’s 60th birthday.
E18hteen will perform at 1:30 a.m. Friday Israel time in a concert expected to draw some 650 Reform teenagers spending the summer in the Jewish state. The concert also marks the 50th anniversary of the Reform youth movement, known as NFTY, and the 30th anniversary of ARZA, the Association of Reform Zionists of America.
“For 50 years, NFTY in Israel has been forging strong ties between North American teens and the State of Israel,” said Rabbi Daniel Freelander, the senior vice president of the Union for Reform Judaism. “Many of today’s Reform leaders, including our president, Rabbi Eric Yoffie, and many of our movement’s rabbis, cantors and lay leaders first visited Israel on a NFTY pilgrimage.”
