Some 14 films will be featured at a six-day Jewish film festival this week in Rio de Janeiro. The Brazilian Jewish community is sponsoring the fourth annual festival in the former Brazilian capital. Israeli and Jewish-themed movies are on the bill. “The festival is the most important event of our community,” Sergio Niskier, the president of the Rio de Janeiro State Jewish Federation, told JTA. “What’s most beautiful is that each film exhibition will be backed by a different Jewish institution. Those pictures that are not playing in regular theaters are among the most sought after by both Jews and non-Jews.”
