Sam Clevenson, the founder of The Jewish World of Albany, N.Y., has died.
Clevenson, who started the weekly newspaper in 1965, died July 25 at his home in Schnectady. He was 90.
His more than 70 years in journalism includes covering Babe Ruth’s last game.
Clevenson worked as many as 70 hours a week until just a few weeks before he died, said Lisa Shaw, the sales manager at The Jewish World.
“If my car stalled in a snowstorm, he’d be out there with jumper cables in his 80s,” Shaw told the Albany Times Union.
The Albany Jewish community is mourning the loss of its main informant for 43 years, family friend Marc Gronich told the Times Union.
“It’s something that was just a breath of fresh air,” he said. “It kept us together as a Jewish community, and it’s real sad he’s gone.”
