An Israeli Arab is suspected of enlisting in Hezbollah while studying medicine in Germany.
The 30-year-old man, a resident of Kalansua who was arrested after his return to Israel from Frankfurt on July 16, was indicted Wednesday in Petah Tikvah District Court on terrorism charges.
With a gag order on the case lifted, the Shin Bet disclosed that the suspect is believed to have been recruited by a Hezbollah agent in Germany.
According to the security service, the Israeli Arab was paid $15,000 to collect the names of others who might join the Lebanese militia in planning attacks against the Jewish state. He was further instructed to seek employment at an Israeli hospital where he could spy on military and security personnel, the Shin Bet said.
It was not immediately clear how the suspect would plead to the charges, which carry lengthy prison sentences.
