An Israeli woman who was raped by British troops in 1948 was recognized as a disabled war veteran.
With that status, she becomes eligible for state grants.
The woman was a 14-year-old volunteer for the Jewish militia Lehi when she was caught, tortured and raped by British soldiers.
According to a report Tuesday on Israel Radio, she kept her ordeal a secret until 1993, when she disclosed it to her daughter while watching a television program on rape.
A 15-year campaign followed to have the Defense Ministry recognize the woman, whose name was not published, as a disabled war veteran.
