An outspoken, right-wing Israeli professor was charged with incitement to violence and insulting a civil servant.
Hillel Weiss of Bar-Ilan University was indicted in Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday over two public statements that stirred controversy.
Opposing the military’s evacuation of Jewish squatters in Hebron, Weiss told reporters that he hoped the soldiers’ commander would die. He also came out against the 2006 gay pride march in Jerusalem, suggesting that he would support vigilante attacks against the participants.
Weiss has apologized for his tirade against the army officer but said he stands firm in his political views.
