Israel’s Supreme Court issued an injunction preventing the army from demolishing the home of the Mercaz HaRav yeshiva killer.
The father of Ala Abu Dhaim, who gunned down eight yeshiva students in March before he was killed, petitioned the High Court of Justice to prevent the demolition of the eastern Jerusalem home’s second and third stories – his son had lived there – saying it would be uninhabitable for the rest of the family.
Justice Salim Jubran issued a temporary injunction Tuesday evening. He also ordered the army’s Home Front Command to respond within 30 days to the family’s petition asking for estimates on the strength of the four-story building after the middle floors are knocked out. Jubran then will rule on how to proceed.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak ordered the demolition last month. Israel has not demolished eastern Jerusalem homes as a punitive measure against terrorists in recent years.
