A Palestinian woman threw acid in the face of an Israeli soldier at a checkpoint near Nablus.
The woman tried to cross into Israel on Wednesday at the Hawara checkpoint, driving in an emergency humanitarian lane. When she reached the soldier guarding the border, she threw acid at his face and disappeared into Nablus. The soldier was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Israeli army forces have been ordered to be lenient at the checkpoints during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Also on Wednesday, a Palestinian couple claimed that a delay at the same checkpoint on Sept. 4 resulted in the wife giving birth to a stillborn baby.
While rushing to the Nablus hospital, the couple said they were stopped by a soldier at the checkpoint since they did not have the proper documentation to cross. The couple were using a relative’s car instead of an ambulance.
They said it took nearly an hour for an ambulance to arrive and deliver the baby.
