An Israeli rower took a bronze medal in the Beijing Paralympics Games.
Eli Nawi finished third in the men’s single sculls-A event on Thursday in a time of 5 minutes, 39.11 seconds. The event was making its debut at the Paralympics.
Israel now has three silver medals and one bronze in the 2008 Games.
In other results involving Israeli teams Thursday, the men”s wheelchair basketball team lost to Great Britain, 82-67, in its final preliminary match. The Israelis finished fourth in Group B with a 2-4 record and advanced to the quarterfinals, where they will meet defending gold medalist Canada.
Boaz Kramer and Shraga Weinberg advanced to the gold-medal match in mixed doubles-quad with a 6-6, 6-4 semifinals victory over the second-seeded British pair. The Israelis will face the top-seeded U.S. team of David Wagner and Nick Taylor on Saturday.
“I don’t know how to say it, it’s the greatest moment in my life right now,” Kramer told the Olympic News Service.
“Right now we will be celebrating for a couple of hours, and tomorrow morning the first thing is to think about the next match, the gold-medal match,” he said. “I think if we performed as well as today, we will have a chance.”
In the equestrian individual freestyle test final, Omer Ben Dor finished 13th out of 15.
