An Israeli Air Force officer in possession of sensitive information was declared a deserter.
Information about the incident is under military embargo, but Ynet reported Tuesday that the Air Force major took an unauthorized leave several weeks ago, flew to the United States and now refuses to return.
The military is concerned that the major could divulge privileged information gleaned during his service, Ynet reported, citing sources in the defense establishment.
The officer has worked on some of the Air Force’s top secret projects.
Military police began investigating the officer in March, for allegedly trying to start a business while on leave in the United States. He left for New York in August, where he joined his waiting family, according to Ynet.
