Waltz with Bashir’ takes Israeli Oscar

An animated documentary about the Lebanon War won best film at Israel’s Academy Awards.

“Waltz with Bashir,” which follows director Ari Folman’s attempts to fill in the holes in his memory regarding his army service during the first Lebanon War, took six Ophir Awards Tuesday night. It will be Israel’s entry in the best foreign film category at the Academy Awards.

Actors and directors at the award ceremony criticized the government’s decision to cut back on funding for Israeli movies.

Yoel Zilberg, who directed the “Kuni Lemel” series of films, received a lifetime achievement award.

Meanwhile, an HBO version of the Israeli hit show “In Treatment” received an Emmy Award Sunday in Los Angeles. Dianne Wiest won as best supporting actress for the series, and Glyn Turman won for a guest appearance.
