Even after he spent much of the last few months campaigning for John McCain, Joe Lieberman is still interested in remaining in the Senate Democratic Caucus. But not at the cost of his chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee.

Talking Points Memo flags the key quote in this Politico story from an unidentified Lieberman aide: "His position is he wants to remain in the caucus, but losing the chairmanship is unacceptable."

The Politico story notes that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (D-Ky.) has reached out to Lieberman, but that he couldn’t offer any high-ranking commitee assignments.
