Israeli medical group goes to China

WASHINGTON (JTA) — An Israeli medical organization leaves Sunday for a training and surgical mission in China.

Save a Child’s Heart, which specializes in pediatric heart surgery, will bring 15 members on the trip and hopes to treat as many children as possible during the course of the week, according to Ha’aretz.

It is the group’s eighth mission to China, where Israeli doctors have worked beside Chinese colleagues to previously perform surgery on more than 100 children. The mission will be headquartered at the Hebei Children’s Hospital in Shijiazhuang.

The Israeli medical group has already trained six Chinese doctors and eight Chinese nurses in Israel, and hudreds of others during previous missions to China. 

Save a Child’s Heart has sponsored operations on more than 2,000 children since its founding 12 years ago. Almost half were done on Palestinians or children from Arab countires neighboring Israel.
