KIEV, Ukraine (JTA) — A prominent Jewish Reform leader and Ukrainian composer received a top honor from his country.
Aleksandr Zlotnik was presented with the Order of Yaroslav the Wise, fifth degree, on Nov. 13 by Ukrainian President Victor Yuschenko. The award was for Zlotnik’s “prominent personal contribution to the development of Ukrainian culture and art, long-term creative activity and on the occasion of his 60th birthday.”
Zlotnik is a president of the Association of Reform Movement in Ukraine. Along with being a well-known composer who has written numerous Jewish, Ukrainian and Russian songs , he is a national actor of Ukraine.
