WASHINGTON (JTA) — Israel is expanding its ties with NATO.
The Jewish state recently provided information for two NATO intelligence reports on missile development and the nuclear arms race in the Middle East, according to a Ynet News report. Israel also is reportedly cooperating with the organization in efforts to halt weapons smuggling in the Mediterranean Sea, stationing an Israeli navy intelligence officer in Italy to help transfer intelligence gathered in Israel and intercept smuggling ships.
NATO also wants to use Israel’s information and expertise to deal with roadside explosive devices and expand the involvement of Israeli observers in its military exercises.
Ynet reported that the expansion of ties to Israel was confirmed by the foreign ministers of NATO members.
