JERUSALEM (JTA) — More than 150,000 Hamas supporters in the Gaza Strip celebrated the 21st anniversary of the terrorist organization’s founding.
Sunday’s outdoor rally included a play in which a Hamas activist masqueraded as kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit crying for his mother and father, The Associated Press reported. Hamas has held Shalit in captivity, allegedly in Gaza, for more than 900 days.
Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh spoke for more than an hour amid songs and skits.
