NEW YORK (JTA) — The leader of a pro-settler Israeli group called for the murder of Mahmoud Abbas.
Nadia Matar, the co-chairwoman of Women in Green, said Israel should kill all Palestinian terrorists, including the Palestinian Authority president. Matar made her remarks during an appearance Wednesday night at the Edmond J. Safra Synagogue in New York City. The comments were recorded by the blogger Philip Weiss, who posted a recording of the speech on his Web site.
Matar compared the threat Israel faces today to the one faced by England in the run-up to World War II. She noted that Winston Churchill was accused of being “right wing,” but he understood that in order to make peace the Nazi regime first had to be destroyed.
“Today we must destroy all the terrorist organizations,” Matar said. “We must kill all the terrorist leaders, starting with Mahmoud Abbas, and all others.”
Matar’s remarks were greeted with applause.
Elie Abadie, the synagogue’s rabbi, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
