Israel’s Water Authority announced the watering ban on Monday, and presented its new campaign to promote water conservation.
Water Authority head Uri Shani said Monday that Lake Kinneret could become ecologically dead if extreme water conservation measures are not instituted.
The water allocation to farmers has already been severely cut.
The Water Authority said it will distribute water saving devices for faucets and an hourglass timer to each home to encourage water conservation. A "drought levy" could also be imposed on homes that consistently overuse water.
