NEW YORK (JTA) — A booby-trapped Palestinian fishing boat exploded near an Israeli naval vessel.
The navy spotted the unmanned boat on Monday morning off the northern coast of Gaza and followed it for about an hour, according to news reports. There were no reports of injuries.
The Israel Defense Forces chief of general staff, Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, saluted naval forces for closely following procedures. Ashkenazi said hundreds of kilograms of explosives were found on the boat.
