WASHINGTON (JTA) — The president of Egypt has canceled his trip to the United States because of the death of his 12-year-old grandson.
The White House said Wednesday that Mubarak would not be making his May 26 visit to the White House next week and that President Obama instead would meet with Mubarak next month when the U.S. president is slated to come to Egypt, according to media reports.
The official Egyptian news agency, MENA, reported that Mubarak’s grandson, Mohammed, died on Monday "after health complications suffered during the past two days."
