JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Swedish tourist to Israel was hospitalized in serious condition with the swine flu.

Though very sick, the woman, who is in the intensive care unit at Tel Aviv’s Sourasky Medical Center, is expected to recover. The woman’s mother also has the virus.

Doctors at first thought that the woman, 21, was suffering from pneumonia, Ha’aretz reported.

She is the first swine flu victim among 850 cases discovered in Israel to suffer from severe complications, according to the Jerusalem Post. Israelis diagnosed with the virus are being sent home to recover instead of being isolated in hospitals.
