JERUSALEM (JTA) — An Israeli warplane purchased by the Colombian army crashed during a training flight.
The two Israeli pilots were not hurt in Monday’s crash, though the plane was destroyed.
The Kfir warplane likely suffered a technical malfunction as it was preparing for landing, Israel’s Channel 10 reported.
The Israeli-built plane, which was retired from military use in Israel in the 1980s, was one of 24 sold to the Colombian air force for more than $150 million in June. As part of the deal, Israel also upgraded Kfir warplanes sold to Colombia in 1989, according to UPI. .
