Israel considering foreign gov’t funding NGOs

WASHINGTON (JTA) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government reportedly is considering legislation that would ban foreign government funding of some non-governmental organizations.

The discussions come in the wake of revelations that Breaking the Silence, a group that records testimony by Israeli soldiers who claim to have witnessed or participated in abuses, received money from European embassies, the Jerusalem Post reported on Friday.

Ron Dermer, a senior adviser to Netanyahu, called such contributions “blatant and unacceptable,” the Post reported.
