JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli President Shimon Peres celebrated his 86th birthday.

Peres was born in Poland on Aug. 2, 1923, according to biographical data provided on the Knesset Web site. But his Hebrew birthday is Av 20, which he recently decided to mark as his birthday and falls later in the month.

Prior to his assuming the presidency, his biography listed Aug. 16 as his birthday, and his birthday will be marked this year with a  tribute on Aug. 16 in Tel Aviv, at the launch of a CD in which several of the poems Peres has written are set to music, the Jerusalem Post reported.

If Peres completes his full seven-year term he will become the world’s oldest ever head of state, the Post reported.
