Frank, Polis praise Israel for investigation into LGBT attack

Two Jewish and gay members of Congress are praising Israel for giving "the highest priority to catching the murderers" of two Israelis at an LGBT center in Tel Aviv on Saturday.

"Of course, murders of any kind are a terrible blow to society, but we as Members of Congress who are gay and Jewish have noted with great pride that Israel is unique in the Middle East for its support of the right of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people to equal treatment," wrote Reps. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) and Jared Polis (D-Colo.). "The commitments you have expressed to solve this monstrous crime and to ensure the security of LGBT Israelis is an important affirmation of this example of how Israel alone in its geographic neighborhood shares the values of democracy so important to the U.S.

Dear Prime Minister Netanyahu:

We write to you to express our shock at the murders of gay and lesbian Israelis at the Center in Tel Aviv. We are pleased to learn that the police are giving the highest priority to catching the murderers, and any others who were complict with them.

Of course, murders of any kind are a terrible blow to society, but we as Members of Congress who are gay and Jewish have noted with great pride that Israel is unique in the Middle East for its support of the right of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people to equal treatment. The commitments you have expressed to solve this monstrous crime and to ensure the security of LGBT Israelis is an important affirmation of this example of how Israel alone in its geographic neighborhood shares the values of democracy so important to the U.S.
