JERUSALEM (JTA) — Three more Israelis died after contracting swine flu.
The deaths overnight Wednesday bring to eight the number of Israelis who have died as a result of the H1N1 virus.
A man, 40, died three days after being hospitalized with a high fever. A woman, 54, who suffered from intestinal cancer, died shortly after being diagnosed with the virus. Another woman, 60, died after being hospitalized since Saturday and hooked up to a respirator.
The Health Ministry released a report Wednesday noting a 3.6 percent rise in the number of swine flu cases in the past two weeks, bringing the total to 2,148 confirmed cases. Half of the cases were under the age of 30, according to the report. Only 5 percent of the cases were older than 50.
