WASHINGTON (JTA) — A nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering young Jewish leaders is closing.

The 5-year-old Professional Leaders Project, which recruited and trained future American Jewish leaders in their 20s and 30s, will "phase out its operations" at the end of August due to the "economic climate," according to a news release from the organization.

Wednesday’s statement said the organization hopes to resume operations some time in the future.

The Professional Leaders Project paired participants with mentors in the Jewish community for coaching and leadership training, and also offered academic fellowships and skill-building conferences.
