JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Palestinian Authority will investigate claims that the Israeli military harvested Palestinian organs.
The PA announced Thursday that a commission made up of its interior, health and foreign ministers will probe the claims raised last month by a Swedish newspaper, Ynet reported. The commission will decide whether to pursue legal action against Israel based on its findings.
In a large spread in its culture section in mid-August, the daily Aftonbladet reported that Israel allegedly seized young Palestinian men and returned them to their families with missing organs. The story ran under the headline "They plunder the organs of our sons."
The Swedish government has refused to condemn the article, citing freedom of the press. The newspaper’s editor said in an editorial that the newspaper had no actual evidence that the allegations against the Israel Defense Forces are true.
