The National Jewish Democratic Council and a top Jewish Democrat in the House of Representatives are congratulating President Obama on his Nobel Peace Prize win.
NJDC CEO Ira Forman said "Obama has made commendable progress especially in the Middle East – moving the region closer toward lasting peace and security." Forman added that "the Jewish community worldwide is particularly concerned about the growing threat to peace as a result of the polices of the government in Tehran" and "Obama has made dramatic strides in building international support against Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons and has shown strong leadership in rallying world leaders to denounce Iranian recklessness."
And House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.) also praised the choice.
"I’m delighted at this recognition of President Obama’s work to strengthen international cooperation," said Berman. "It validates the president’s approach to tough trans-national challenges such as global warming and the spread of nuclear arms. And it celebrates his steady efforts to improve America’s standing around the world."
