SYDNEY, Australia (JTA) — Teenage students at a New Zealand school are facing punishment after photos of them mocking Nazi symbols surfaced on Facebook.
The photos, which have since been taken down from the social networking Web site, show the boys from Auckland Grammar kissing a swastika, making the Sieg Heil salute and bowing down in front of a Nazi flag during a trip earlier this year to the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
Auckland Grammar principal John Morris told local media the students will be disciplined appropriately.
New Zealand Jewish Council president Stephen Goodman, who has two children at the school, said the Holocaust should be part of the New Zealand school curriculum because ignorance was probably the prime reason for the stunt.
“There is that old saying, ‘Those not able to learn from history are doomed to repeat it,’ ” Goodman told the New Zealand Herald.
